Yesterday evening -according to the reports- 120 thousand fans attended the prizegiving ceremony of Vendée Globe 2008-2009. Vincent Riou received -awarded by the jury- a complimentary third place. (As it is known, it was Riou, who rescued his friend, Jean le Cam at Cap Horn out of the keel-lost, capsized yacht. Later, sailing to the neares shore with Jean, their mast collapsed as a consequence of a damage gained during the rescue operation. ) Marc Guillemot's pleasure was receiving a trophy for his third place, Armel le Cléac'h's for the second place and it was Michel Desjoyeaux who could receive his trophy for the well-deserved winning.
The ceremony -the herald article had not been extravagant at all- was dazzlingly grandiose. The light- and firework accompanying the moments were fascinating, not mentioned the stage itself built for this dedicated occasion.
Next edition of Vendée Globe will start in fat three years, again, according to the tradition from Les Sables d'Olonne.
Start time: October 21, 2012, Sunday 13:02pm
the winner: Michel Desjoyeaux: ... who won second time - first time in the history of Vendée Globe!
I was pleased of seeing the well-known faces. Albeit the published video just flashed puzzles from the group of sailing kings, they were fresh, perfectly dressed, vibrant and agile. Our two sailing ladies in this edition, Dee Caffari and Sam Davies are -certainly- nicer than ever. Any internet visitor having a minimal interest in the VG competitors, should afford review the photos and video of the closing ceremony, it is an ever-lasting experience.
We are looking forward to the next edition of Vendée Globe! In the meantime good winds for the sailing kings!
